Outlaw Throws Tires on the Saguaro Cactus’ Arms.
5/11/2017
This massive Saguaro grew another arm after some outlaw threw that middle tire. Keeping in mind that it takes 50-100 years for a Saguaro to even begin to grow arms, therefore, any arm that buds THEN takes it's own lengthy time span to actually become an arm. I'm engulfed...obsessed with knowing when the tires were thrown onto the cactus. I’m also inspired at the mighty Saguaro’s ability to not care and carry on.
Did you know that it is illegal to damage or disrespect a Saguaro cactus? They’ve been protected since 1933. Even so, I don’t think the outlaw would have cared. Actually calling whomever did this an outlaw is too sweet. I prefer the romanticized versions of outlaws… he/she having their own moral codes.
Back to the topic... I’m estimating the time frame by the height of the Saguaro, it’s flowering ability, and arm development along with the fact that rubber tires were invented in the late 1800s. The style and width of the rubber tire is also a factor in guesstimating the time frame. Googling, I found tires that resemble the middle tire on the Saguaro dated 1936 and also 1947.
Bringing my rambling to an end… I’m figuring those tires were thrown around 1940ish.
